DharuraFasta
Project Overview
In Mbeya Region’s mountainous terrain, including villages like Songwe, unreliable transportation has long hindered healthcare access, amplifying the three-delay model in:
  1. Decision to seek healthcare

  2. Transportation to a health facility

  3. Quality of care upon arrival

HIMSO (Health and Insurance Management Services Organization), a nonprofit focused on community healthcare, launched the DharuraFasta Insurance Initiative to address this. The program provides rapid medical transport—moving members from homes to facilities and between lower- and higher-level centers when government ambulances are unavailable—targeting critical delays. Initially, DharuraFasta struggled with operational inefficiencies. Manual tracking of insurance enrollments, payments, and beneficiary notifications lagged in real time, undermining its effectiveness. To overcome these challenges, HIMSO partnered with us Bridging Technologies (BTL), to digitize the initiative. Together, we built a comprehensive system that streamlines operations, With automated alerts, and data-driven insights, ensuring DharuraFasta delivers impactful healthcare support efficiently.

The Challenge

HIMSO’s existing manual system faced several inefficiencies that hindered its effectiveness:

  • Report Generation & Data Management Delays: Slow processing of contributions, reconciliation, and beneficiary data.

  • Fund Collection & Reconciliation: Challenges in tracking contributions from community-based health user association groups (CHUAs).

  • User Management Issues: Difficulties in handling beneficiaries' KYC, stakeholders' registration, and permissions.

  • Community Health Coordination: Lack of a system to enhance communication between HIMSO staff, CHUA members, Community Health Workers (CHWs), local leaders, and healthcare providers.

Our Solution

BTL developed a robust web-based platform tailored to address HIMSO’s operational inefficiencies. The DharuraFasta Digital Solution includes

  • Beneficiary Data Management – Secure storage of beneficiaries’ KYC details, including IDs.

  • Automated Contribution Collection – Direct mobile payments for CHUA members.

  • Real-Time Reconciliation – Automated tracking of collected contributions and direct reconciliation with CHUA’s bank accounts.

  • Role-Based Access Control – Ensuring secure data access based on user roles (HIMSO staff, CHUA leaders, health workers, etc.).

  • Multi-Channel Notifications – Seamless communication via SMS and Email gateways to update stakeholders.

  • Scalability & Future-Proofing – Designed to accommodate future growth and additional features.
